Plans for Tesco Express store to be opened in the city centre

Tesco has confirmed it plans to open up an Express store at the former ‘Birthday’s’ site in Bow Street with the creation of 20 jobs.

As yet the firm says it is unable to confirm a timescale on the plans.

Corporate Affairs Manager for Tesco Richard Holligan said the company was very pleased to be proposing such a store.

“We are very pleased to be proposing to invest in Lisburn with a new Tesco Express convenient store in Bow Street,” he said.

“The store will be located in the former birthday card shop and will bring back to life a vacant unit creating more than 20 much needed jobs for local people.

“The store will sell a range of every day items including fresh food. We will keep the community closely informed as plans progress.”

Tesco opened in Lisburn, Bentrim Road in 1999. It currently employs 450 staff.

Economic Development Committee Chairman, Alderman Allan Ewart said, “This will offer choice for customers and being an express store it assists with people’s busy lives.”
