Assembly member Palmer said she will be writing to the Minister Chris Hazzard and Translink about her concerns.

Mrs Palmer said: “There is a real danger that the much-used and much-needed Hilden train halt could become a death trap because some young people are putting themselves in considerable danger by playing on the rail lines.

“There is clearly a lack of safety structures at the halt if some young people can access the rail lines for so-called fun.

“I am writing to the Minister and Translink to ask for capital funding to avert Hilden halt becoming a death trap. What is urgently required is a footbridge at Hilden, similar to the one at Lambeg, and a proper crossing facility on the Belfast Road/Queensway, also similar to the one at Lambeg.

“It is of the utmost importance that both the Minister and Translink give serious consideration to this situation at Hilden before someone is either killed or badly injured,” said Assembly member Palmer.
