Maghaberry Post Office on the move

Post Office Ltd is pushing ahead with plans to relocate Maghaberry Post Office to new premises.

While the company has initiated a six-week public consultation about the planned move, the new branch at the Spar store on Maghaberry Road is scheduled to open on March 31.

The new Post Office, which is less than 250 metres from the current location, will be a modern open-plan local-style branch with extended opening hours, offering a wide range of postal and banking services.

The branch will open seven days a week, from 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday - an extra 65 hours and 30 minutes of Post Office service every week.

The proposed move, in agreement with the current postmaster, is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Post Office local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services and the new Maghaberry branch will offer Post Office products and services throughout shop opening hours from an open-plan till at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter.

Suzanne Richardson, Regional Manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

The old Post Office at 19A Maghaberry Road is due to close on March 30. The new branch will open the following day in order to “maintain a Post Office service and minimise any disruption to customers.”

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal. The consultation will close on 19 April 2017.
