The hotel, which employs about 120 people, will remain trading.

The partnership which holds the hotel, Balmoral Inns LLP, showed an annual loss of £137,000 in its last accounts.A Bank of Ireland mortgage is registered on the hotel and it’s understood the bank appointed the administrator.

Stuart Irwin of administrators, KPMG, said they were focused on maintaining jobs and were working with management and staff to “ensure continuity” in its operation.

“It is our intention,” he said, “to keep the hotel open for business as usual, including weddings and all other bookings.”

It was intended, he said, to sell the business as a going concern. “It is early in the administration process but our intention at present is to keep the workforce intact,” he said.

“We will keep all matters under review in the coming days and weeks.

“Given the great location and our stated intentions we hope people will continue to book and our immediate objective is to secure operations, honour bookings and work with the existing staff.

“We will look at selling the business in due course.”
