Budget cuts lead to safety concerns

Lisburn Councillor Robbie Butler has challenged the Stormont Executive to ensure there is “more adequate funding to maintain an effective fire service”.

Mr Butler warned that last year’s budget reduction, along with a further proposed cut of 5% to 6% next year, was going to have a detrimental impact on Fire Service provision.

“We cannot be complacent about the extent of the cuts,” he said.

“Having spoken to many of the men and women in the local service, I fear that a further cut will simply lead to even greater risk to public safety.”
