Award winning artist to take part in exhibition

AN ARDBOE artist who won a prestigious award for her work is set to part in a special exhibition.

Rose Quinn, a past pupil of St Pius X College, Magherafelt, won the Jaffa Art Prize for her “challenging and courageous” sculptures.

Her work focuses mainly on rediscovered materials that people may have discarded or thrown away.

The talented University of Ulster sculpture graduate will now exhibit her work, along with two other fellow artists, at the ARTTANK Gallery, Belfast as part of the contest prize.

In an interview, Rose spoke of her delight at winning the award. She said: “I am very pleased to win the award, as all my hard work was recognised.”

The Jaffa Art Prize was established to support graduating artists from the University of Ulster and is awarded annually to one or more artists presenting outstanding work.

The exhibition will run from February 21st, until March 7th with viewing times taking place between Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, or by appointment.

Rose will also take part in a exhibition in Ranfurly House Arts and Visitor, Dungannon in May.

She comes from a farming background and incorporates both new and old materials to create something “universally accepted as beautiful”.

She studied Fine and Applied Arts in University of Ulster specialising in Sculpture.
