Mr. Stewart, a retired Civil Servant from Dunmurry, passed away this wee
k. He was a member of Lisburn DPP since its establishment on March 26 2003 and last April was elected Vice-Chairman.

During his short term of office he attended a number of functions in his capacity of Vice-Chairman. Most recently Mr. Stewart chaired a Neighbourhood Watch Event which took place just last Thursday in Lagan Valley Island.

Mr. Stewart was also a member of Dunmurry Community Police Liaison Committee and had a particular interest in policing in the Dunmurry area.

Chairman of the local DPP Councillor Thomas Beckett said that Mr. Stewart, better known as Tommy, was a "staunch community activist with a real passion for community issues and policing".

He said: "Tommy will be sadly missed within the Policing Partnership. As Vice-Chairman of the DPP Tommy could be trusted to Chair meetings and you would know it would have been done correctly and efficiently. He was one of the longest serving independent members of the DPP and I would like to pass on our sympathy on behalf of Lisburn DPP to his family."

Lisburn City Mayor, Councillor Ronnie Crawford described Mr Stewart as a very highly respected member of the DPP who would be sadly missed by his colleagues.

DPP member Councillor Andrew Ewing said Mr Stewart was a dedicated gentleman and would be greatly missed from the DPP and Road Safety Committee.
