TWO of Lisburn's Orange Lodges have raised money for the Alzheimers Society which will be used to fund a local outreach service that supports people suffering from dementia and their carers.
Members of both lodges with Lisburn Alzheimers Society Chairman Mr. John Huddleston and Outreach Worker Mabel Stevenson.

The cheques were handed over to the Society's Down Lisburn branch by Councillor Jenny Palmer on behalf of Lisburn Old Boyne LOL 207 and Lisnagarvey Womens LOL 207.

She explained the purpose of the Outreach Service was to provide information, support and signposting of services to carers and people with dementia.

Mrs. Palmer also told those present 16,000 people in Northern Ireland have dementia and the figure is expected to rise to 47,000 by 2051. At present 400 people under 65 suffer from dementia.

"This is likely to be an underestimate and women are twice as likely as men to be living with late onset dementia," she added.

"Anyone living with dementia, caring for someone with dementia or memory problems or who would just like to know more about the work of the Alzheimer's Society should not hesitate to contact Mabel Stevenson Outreach Worker with the Down Lisburn branch," Mrs. Palmer concluded.

Mabel can be contacted on 4483 9628. Alternatively, use the Northern Ireland Helpline on 9066 4100.
