MANY happy childhood memories were recalled recently as local motorsport fans flocked to see a range of historic cars at the Dundrod Legends event.

Childhood heroes recalled at Dundrod Legends
Whilst the heavy rainfall led to the Ulster Grand Prix being called off, the week prior to the major road race in bikers' calendars saw the Dundrod Legends prove to be a real crowd puller.
Dundrod Motor Cycle Club gave historic car drivers an opportunity to compete a two lap parade of the historic circuit. For Conn Williamson, a senior partner at Crumlin Insurance Partnership (CIP), memories of watching the 1954 and 1955 Tourist Trophy Car Races on the Dundrod circuit as a young boy were brought back.
"To see the likes of Fangio, Stirling Moss and Hawthorn race at Dundrod in the fifties kindled my lifelong interest in all types of motor sport," Conn commented.
"Like most in motorsport Moss, with 66 Grand Prix wins, is to me the greatest driver never to take the world championship. After a meteoric rise driving for Jaguar and HMV Moss was signed up by Mercedes Benz in 1955 to partner Fangio, that great world champion from Argentina. Two drivers, who left all who saw them with marvellous racing memories."
Happily Conn was able to mix business and pleasure during Ulster Grand Prix week when CIP helped sponsor the Dundrod Legends event. Not only has Conn an abiding passion for racing cars from bygone days, but also at CIP offers insurance cover for all types of vehicles, including collectable vehicles.
