The Lurganure Road at Maze is in line for a safety boost thanks to plans for £250,000 worth of improvement works.

Regional Development Minister Michelle McIlveen recently confirmed that resurfacing of the route, from the Gravelhill Road junction to Saint Matthew’s Church Hall, would go ahead early in the new financial year.

The news came with a welcome from Lagan Valley MLAs Jonathan Craig and Edwin Poots. Both men said associated drainage works would improve safety on the road during wet weather.

In a joint statement the DUP pair said: “The road has had a lot of work done by utility, companies leaving the surface unsatisfactory.

“Importantly, drainage work will be carried out in conjunction with the resurfacing, leaving the road safer in wet spells and ensuring the surface is not damaged by holding water. This investment is very welcome and we will continue to work with the local community and lobby for further road improvement in the area.”
