The Overtones thrill fans at Waterfront

by STACEY HEANEY

THE Overtones’ Irish star Timmy Matley told the Star recently that he was looking forward to the local crowd dancing and singing along when the boys performed at the Waterfront Hall as part of their UK and Ireland tour, and they certainly did that as The Overtones thrilled the packed venue on Tuesday night.

Including hits from their platinum debut album Good Ol’ Fashioned Love and the latest release Higher, the five guys, Timmy, whose wonderfrul vocals show why he takes the lead, Lachie Chapman, the Australian with a rich bass voice, Mike Crawshaw, Darren Everest and Mark Franks had fans out of their seats and dancing in the aisles.

A band which is always suited and booted, they are true professionals, displaying perfect vocals and slick dance moves; it’s easy to see why they are so popular, particularly with the ladies. Taking time to talk to fans - as well as pose for a few pics during the show - the boys also took time to walk through the audience as they sang The Glory of Love, much to the delight of the crowd who took every opportunity to grab a hug or a kiss.

Performing old hits such as Good Ol’ Fashioned Love, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Beggin’, The Longest Time and Say What I Feel, as well as new tracks from the latest album Higher, including Call Me Up, a wonderful version of Unforgettable, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling and Perfect, the guys produced a fantastic show.

Australian Lachie told the local crowd that Belfast has a special place in the group’s hearts as they began on the Odyssey stage, when they performed at a Children in Need event.

The boys announced they were finishing the night with Good Night Sweetheart, much to the disappointment of the Belfast crowd, who quickly called for more. They weren’t to be disappointed as the guys came back for more, performing the magnificent Gambling Man, before ending the night with their more recent hit Loving the Sound - and Belfast certainly did.
