FOLLOWING a recent campaign by the community in Seymour Hill, Roads Service has agreed to install traffic calming measures in the area.
Politicians, representatives of the Seymour Hill and Conway Residents' Association and representatives from the local schools united in their call
for traffic calming measures after a number of accidents in the area.

Roads Service has now agreed to introduce traffic calming at Ballybog Road, River Road, Rowan Drive, Hazel Avenue, Willow Gardens, Hornbeam Road and Lilac Walk.

A spokesperson for Roads Service explained: "Preliminary design work has been completed for the proposed traffic calming in the Seymour Hill area. Our preliminary proposals consist of a series of road humps, however these measures are subject to change, and our proposals will only be finalised following a consultation process.

"Roads Service hope to complete the work in the Seymour Hill area during this financial year depending on the successful completion of the consultative process and the availability of finance."

Welcoming the announcement, Lagan Valley MLA Jonathan Craig said: "There have been traffic issues in Seymour Hill for as long as I can remember. The residents had been pushing for this and it is unfortunate it took a number of quite serious accidents before this was given enough priority.

"I know the high school will definitely welcome this scheme as they need it to ensure students' safety."

Dunmurry Cross Councillor Margaret Tolerton added: "This will have the full support of the residents' association as they have been seeking this for a long time."
