The Dunmurry facility supports over 40 adults with a learning disability and offers a broad range of training in a commercial garden centre.

Clients are involved in the production of plants, retail outlet, landscaping and manufacturing hanging baskets, which are sold to local businesses and the public in the Dunmurry and Seymour Hill area.

Thanking the Chief Executive of the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust for his invitation Mr McGimpsey said: "I welcome the opportunity to officially reopen this facility and to meet the staff and clients who are pivotal in making the day centre a success.

"The amount of effort that has gone in to taking Seymour Hill Horticultural Unit to a new level is evident for all to see.

"The Carers Forum and local councillors have been actively involved with Trust Disability services to improve the environment for those attending the Horticultural Unit."

Lagan Valley MLA Basil McCrea also attended the reopening.
He said: "I personally appreciate the hard work put in by carers in the Lisburn area to those with learning difficulties and would hope improvements in facilities such as this will allow some of the pressure created to be alleviated.

"It would be my hope to see further development and investment in similar set-ups in the near future within the Lagan Valley area," he concluded.
