YOUNG volunteers with the Manor Park Residents Group in Lisburn were amongst 400 young people from the across Northern Ireland who have received their MV Awards of Excellence from the Minister for Education, John O’Dowd at a celebration organised by Volunteer Now, held in Belfast City Hall.

The Awards recognise the sustained volunteering commitment given by young people through the Millennium Volunteers Programme. Each young person had given at least 200 hours of their own time, skills and enthusiasm to help individuals or organisations in their community.

Speaking at the event Lagan Valley MLA Basil McCrea said, “This is a great event to have been involved in. Those winning awardees deserve a huge amount of praise for giving up their valuable time. It is extremely encouraging for society to see so many young people getting involved in their local communities.

“I cannot stress the value of volunteering for developing skills and for often giving people an advantage in such a competitive job market.”
