PRIMARY school children from Lisburn are looking forward to beginning the hunt for Santa’s missing reindeer - who have taken up position, hiding in shop windows in the City centre this Christmas.
These life-sized papier mache reindeer were delivered to primary schools in the area during November and have been artfully decorated by pupils from the participating schools.
Once finished, they were hidden at secret locations in shop windows across Lisburn and a total of ten colourful Christmas reindeer are hiding out just waiting to be found.
This is the third year that the reindeer have been hiding in Lisburn and the first that primary schools across Lisburn have been involved.
Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman Lisburn City Centre Management (LCCM) said: “The Reindeer Hunt is unique to Lisburn and Schools across the borough and City centre traders have really got behind the hunt this year. We are hoping it will be a really special fun event.
“Along with their teachers, pupils have spent countless hours dressing and decorating their reindeer and the children have worked hard knitting, gluing, painting and sticking things together to make their unique creations.
“It’s also a chance for some fun in Lisburn City centre, and adds to the festive spirit for both traders and shoppers.”
The Reindeer Hunt is organized by LCCM in conjunction with Island Art Centre who sourced community artists to help many of the schools taking part to dress up and decorate the reindeer.
Lesley Wilson, Community Arts Officer said: “Island Community Arts are delighted to work in Partnership with Lisburn City Centre Management and local primary schools to enable young people to be fully involved in the Christmas festivities.
“Through our Arts Encounters Programme local schools have received arts workshops with local artists to create fun and festive reindeers. We hope all the young people will enjoy seeing their hard work on display in the city centre over the Christmas period!”
To join in the great Reindeer hunt, simply find a store with a reindeer in the window and pop inside and pick up a reindeer hunt card.
