FREEWHEELERS Disabled Sport Development Club have handed over a cheque for £8,262 to help develop sport for the disabled in Northern Ireland.

The money was raised this year by three different methods. Firstly by the The ‘Ulster Hand Cycling Association’ who helped to organise The Freewheelers Cycle Tour/Hand Cycle Push around Lough Neagh, which took place last August. This cycle tour raised £3,602 and the UHCA thanked the cyclists who turned up from all over the province, including many from Maryland Wheelers and the Lisburn area, to support this annual 75 mile tour. Special thanks to those who assisted the event throughout its 22 years of existence.

Secondly, a total of £2,500 was kindly donated by former football club Crumlin Rec who sadly wrapped things up for good this year.

Thirdly, Alistair and Jeanie Mulholland`s Barn Dance which took place in October raised £2,160 towards local disabled sport development.

This much needed funding will go towards, and is essential for, the survival and development of sports such as Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Tennis, Trackchair Racing, and Hand Cycling. Such sports are enjoyed by people covering a wide range of disabilities.

The Freewheelers Club are extremely grateful to all who very kindly contributed and helped to raise this superb total, all of which goes directly to support sports for the disabled in NI.

Special thanks also go to JBE Building Services Ltd, Ballymena, and Alan McComb Joinery, Dundrod, for providing service vans on the day of the Freewheelers Lough Neagh Cycle Tour and to the catering ladies for a job well done.
