Ethan has them laughing in the aisles

BROOKFIELD Primary School pupil Ethan Faulkner had everyone in stitches at Stormont recently when he was crowned champion in the primary category of the Northern Ireland Voice Box Awards.

Ethan was one of twenty pupils who brought light relief to the Stormont Chamber with their witty jokes and tales for the 2012 Voice Box Awards final.

One of Northern Ireland’s more familiar voices, Mr William Hay MLA, Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, hosted the second annual Voice Box Awards which attracted some of the best jokers from schools across the country.

The grand final was held in the Parliament Building’s historic Senate Chamber to highlight the importance of communication skills to young people and elected representatives as part of the UK wide Giving Voice campaign.

The event brought together pupils, parents, teachers, MLAs and speech and language therapists for a day of comedy.

Local UUP MLA Basil McCrea took home the ‘funniest MLA’ award, taking the title from his party colleague John McCallister who won the title in 2011.

Dylan Watson and Teri Joy Best, both from Beechlawn School in Hillsborough were shortlisted as finalists and also attended the event in Parliament Buildings.
