APRIL 16-23, 1987 DARTS: Nev Fountain produced one of the shocks of the county season when beating world number three Mike Gregory 3-0 to help Cambs to a big win over Avon. ICE HOCKEY: Peterborough Pirates fans pledged to raise enough money to enable star import Doug McEwen to return for another season. POSH: A second minute goal from Steve Bull gave Wolves a 1-0 win at London Road in a big Division Four promotion battle in front of a crowd of 9,360. SPEEDWAY: Ian Barney (12), Nigel Flatman (10) and Kevin Hawkins (9) top scored as Peterborough Panthers crushed Glasgow Tigers 57-21 in a National League meeting. FOOTBALL: Mid-table Eye United made it four Peterborough Premier Division wins in a row with a 3-0 success over Parson Drove. Gary Breen, Dave Snart and Mark Papworth scored the goals while veteran goalkeeper Jim Mitchell kept a fourth clean sheet in a row. CRICKET: Thomas Cook beat Sleaford by seven wickets in the South Lincs Premier Division. Steve Kirchin (88), Andy Vernum (50) and former Posh player John Cozens (48) were all among the runs. APRIL 16-23, 1977 POSH: Goalkeeper Keith Waugh was man-of-the-match as mid-table Posh extended their unbeaten run in Division Three to nine games with a 0-0 draw at Chesterfield. FOOTBALL: Two goals from defender Gary Williams enabled Eye United to win the Sunday League Advertiser Cup Final 2-1 against Stamford Tigers. RUGBY UNION: Stamford won the ET Cup for a third straight season beating RAF Wittering 6-0 in the final. Russel Doyle scored the only try of the match. HOCKEY: Brian Bayston and Paul Barber scored the goals as Peterborough Town fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Harlow. ATHLETICS: New club Nene Valley Harriers recorded the best ever performance by a Peterborough club at the annual Cambridge 10-mile road race. Internationan Ian Thompson won the race in 47.55 with Ray Church, Stuart Hatch and Bill Getty helping the club to second place overall. SQUASH: Neville Keir retained his Northants Junio title beating Eastfield clubmate Steve Gray 9-3-,9-4, 9-2 in the final at Bretton Gate.
