Dean recovering well after leg-break horror accident

Dean had a relatively low speed crash but as he got to his feet was hit by a following rider. His right leg was broken below the knee and required a six-hour operation to pin and plate the bones. Dean has asked me to thank the Mondello Park Medical team, the Marshals from the MMA and all the doctors and nurses who cared for him while he was in both Naas and Tallaght Hospitals. He will be out of action for a couple of months now and according to his dad Colin, seems to be well settled to his mum Rosie and sisters Chloe and Rachel running about taking care of him. Get well soon, Dean. EASTER RACING This weekend will see the traditional Easter weekends racing at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown. It’s not so many years ago that Easter Monday was the first meeting of the year, but now the racing season seems to have expanded to have more races over a longer time. The first ISB meeting of the year was at Mondello in March, while the final one is at the end of October. Organised by the MCRRCI the feature race of Saturday at Bishopscourt will be the 38th running of the Enkalon Trophy race. Most of Irelands top tarmac racers will contest this one, including Nico Mawhinney, who is the youngest person ever to win the Irish Superbike title. David Haire, Cody Nally, Jamie Hamilton and local riders Stephen Thompson, Denver Robb and Mark Glasgow are all entered, as is Blackskull man Phil McGrath, winner of last years Superbike Cup championship. The winner of the Cup race will lift the Sam Martin Memorial Cup. In the Supersport class Haire and Mawhinney will also come under starters orders, as will Jason Lynn, Keith Amor, Christian Elkin, Carl Phillips, Jason Lynn, Conor Parkhill, Robert English and Jamie Hamilton. A full grid in the Supertwins race will bring together KMR team mates Keith Amor and Ryan Farquhar, Dave Butler, Jamie Hamilton, Marty Lennon, Korie McGreevy, Drew Jamison and the Chawke brothers James and Liam. Add to these our top sidecar drivers and passengers and I think we are in for a great day’s sport. Practice will get under way at 9am, with the first of 16 races scheduled for 11am. On Monday the action moves to Kirkistown, when the opening rounds of the Avon Tyres Supertwins Road Race and Short Circuit championship will take place. The idea of this championship is to try to entice road racers to compete in an odd short circuit. Theres two road race rounds in the North, two in the South and the same with short circuits. I understand that theres upwards of 200 entries for the meeting which always attracts a large crowd. Practice is due off at 9am with the first of the 18 races at 1pm. The feature race of the day will be the Mayor’s Trophy, contested by the fastest riders on the day. Roy Adams
