Local runners in Causeway races
The marathon starts in Portballintrae and follows the paths, tracks, beaches and coastline of the Causeway Coast Way to Ballintoy and back, and while not for the fainthearted it takes in some magnificent coastline scenery if one has the time to take in the views.
Veterans Turner and Hopkins had intended to run as a pairing, but the younger Turner was in sparkling form and coming just a mere week after his 8hrs 6mins outing at the 42-mile Ayr Way Ultra Race in Scotland, he still had enough in the tank to leave his colleague floundering in his wake. Turner eventually crossed the finish line in a well-deserved 5hrs 13mins 01secs, to finish 66th overall, with Hopkins a further 20 minutes behind and finishing in 72nd place with a time of 5hrs 33mins 37secs.
