The weather is still a bit on the cool side so the fish seem to be lying a bit low in the water. However, reports have been given of some good fish being caught. Numbers at the Corbet Lough during evenings and weekends are good and the craic is mighty. It is very unusual to hear of eels being caught on the fly, but one of the more regular anglers at the Corbet can boast of catching two during one visit. Malachy McAleenan landed two of these very slippery creatures whilst fishing deep at the Lough. Both fish were returned unharmed to the water. On the same evening Malachy also landed a lovely trout close to five pound weight. As the evenings grow longer and the water becomes warmer tactics will change. Out will come the dry flies and the fun will really begin. The Club are glad to report quite a number of new members for the 2010 season. It is hoped they will go on and enjoy their chosen sport. Membership is always open to those living within a six mile radius of Ballievey Bridge and for those living outside this limit there is always associate membership to be considered. They would like to remind all anglers of the excellent facilities at the Corbet Lough. There they will find a water consisting of almost 80 acres which can be fished from most of the bank area. For those who want to get right into the thick of the action boats can be hired, complete with electric motors and life jackets included in the price. In conjunction with Banbridge District Council and the Mourne Heritage Trust, Banbridge Angling Club have worked tirelessly to produce what the Club believes to be the best angling facility in the country.
