Republicans will gather at The Loup for the main county commemoration on Easter Sunday afternoon which will see a commemorative parade make its ways to the grave of Brigadier Seán Larkin, where those in attendance will be addressed by Sinn Féin MP for Mid-Ulster, Francie Molloy. Ireland’s patriot dead will be especially remembered just before the egalitarian and inclusive message of 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic is recalled. Announcing details regarding the Counties Derry and Antrim Republican Graves Association’s programme of events, Ballymaguigan based Sinn Féin councillor, Peter Bateson said: “As republicans gather at commemorations across the island of Ireland and overseas, we honour the memory, the dedication and the sacrifice of all those who have given their lives to the cause of freedom and the ideals of 1916.” In Swatragh the annual Easter Monday commemoration begins at The Diamond at 2.30pm before moving to Granaghan churchyard for a ceremony. H-Block hunger striker, Raymond McCartney MLA, will give the oration.
