Hide AdDefence said he had a number of previous convictions for driving without insurance and one previous for driving while disqualified.
He explained that the defendant was a self-employed mechanic. He had fixed a customer’s car and was taking it to the customer’s house when stopped.
The solicitor said that a pre-sentence report assessed Johnston as a medium risk of re-offending.
District Judge, Mr Alan White, said Johnston had 10 previous convictions for no insurance and had two previous suspended sentences and imposed a four month term on each charge.
Johnston was released on bail to appeal against the sentence.
