Durkan says end delays for vital Meningitis drug
The Foyle MP brought up the charity’s call to end the delays surrounding the introduction of Bexsero, a vaccine for babies against Meningitis B.
The UK’s statistics around Meningitis B are shocking and the charity say there have been 1,000 cases of Men B since January, when Bexsero received its licence. Yet, the vaccine still hasn’t been given to babies. The charity also say around 400 of those people afflicted will have died or suffered disabilities.

Hide AdMr Durkan said; “we have a real opportunity to prevent a disease which kills or maims many children throughout these islands.”
Meningitis Now founder Steve Daymer MBE has echoed Mr Durkan’s comments, and the charity has handed over a petition to Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP, with over 36,500 signatures.
